19-10-2013 Software release version 1.7.15

Postby admin » Sat Oct 19, 2013 4:07 pm

A new software update is now available!

This software release is to be considered an incremental step in the direction of improving the accuracy of the GPS data.
After installing the new software we believe you should be able to experience:

• A faster GPS locking, especially when connected to WLAN
• Better tracking of your training

We are looking forward to your feedback!
Thanks

ok, emergency over! :)

The first gps lock took about an hour and a half :ugeek:

Since then, from powering off and then switching back on the gps lock has been under 10 minutes, last one took 2 minutes

I assume after a firmware update the device is doing "something" and then following the first lock it must remember the locations when you use the watch again...?

Did my first run with 1.7.15 this morning.

9.52km (Forerunner 305) vs 10.65km (Leikr 1.7.15).
I don't see any improvement using this firmware...

Detailed findings:

I went out for a run this morning (US eastern time)

1) I took my Garmin 910XT along for the workout
2) Auto-pause was off on both devices
3) The distances were 11.84miles (Leikr), 11.78miles (Garmin)
4) The GPS fix was pretty much the same. I leave the watches alone whilst I get ready outside - clear view of the sky
5) The elevation graphs are fairly similar. Between miles 6 and 9.5, I was repeating a circuit whilst is noticeable on the Garmin plot but not as obvious on the Leikr.
6) The pace readings were fairly consistent with each other.

Side notes
a) I am not able to upload my local maps to the watch, not sure what I am missing. Any help appreciated.
b) I created a couple of workouts to try out but again the are not uploading to the watch.

The workouts reports below:

Garmin - http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/260663778

Many thanks.

Dr. D it seems like you have linked to two completely different runs ? Could you please post the correct links?

It's strange that you get so good results with the Leikr. Everyone else who have posted on the forum with 1.7.15 seems to get quite bad results with the new firmware.

Maybe it's because you leave the watch alone for some time after it has acquired a GPS fix. For how many minutes do you leave the watch alone?? (I run immediately after the watch have acquired i GPS fix).
Or maybe it's because you run quite fast (compared to myself and others)?
Or because you run out in the open with no buildings or trees in sight?

---------------

... or maybe most Leikr watches are actually quite good at tracking and only the few unlucky people with poor quality Leikr watches is posting their response on the forum?
Cris (admin) could you please give some official response on the GPS quality and if it has anything to do with the quality of the manufacturing? I know you have (had) some problems as I'm on my 4th Leikr watch because the first three malfunctioned in different ways. You have been very kind to replace them very quickly, but do I need another exchange now? Or does the software just need fine-tuning or is the hardware simply not able to provide a reliable GPS signal? I'm starting to loose faith in LKR-1. Sorry, because I really think this GPS has a lot of potential and I really want you to be successful

Martin - I have been out today, thus the delayed response.

Good catch on the link to the Leikr watch data. Here is the correct link: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/260649851
I have another run in the morning, so I will again post results from that.

I leave the watch for about 1/2mins after the GPS fix before starting my runs - I have a few devices to switch on! The two watches, and two apps (miCoach and Sports Tracker) on a Sony Xperia Active are my data gatherers and coach (miCoach app). The route is generally free of tall buildings - I have a clear view of the sky for about 95% of the circuit that I use.

Yes I am running at a relative quick pace - usually between 6 and 7 mins/mile (3:43 and 4:20 mins/km).

Many thanks.

I went out for a run this morning (US eastern time)

1) I took my Garmin 910XT along for the workout
2) Auto-pause was off on both devices
3) The distances were 13.85miles (Leikr), 13.69miles (Garmin). This was a run on wooded trails: 90% is covered, the start area is very open with a clear view of the sky.
4) The GPS fix was pretty much the same. I leave the watches alone whilst I get ready outside.
5) The elevation graphs are off. I was running around a lake (just over 2miles per circuit) and the graphs are not consistent.
6) The pace readings were fairly consistent with each other.

Hi Leikr
I have updated and made a workout only based on minuts. That Works fine. A mix betweens minuts and Km is not working. Posted that earlier. I have one problem that the last training Leikr is uploading Again and Again. :|
First fix is working fine, there is a Little "on-off" the first minut or so but not a real problem.
The tracking is still a little "wobbly" see: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/261550526/659989
It is only around 3-4%

could somebody please post a explanation how to actually get maps on the device? the UI is mysterious, and so far i was not able to actually get any maps to the device. the whole configuration UI is rather strange and probably needs an overhaul, but that of course takes time. but at least some walkthrough through the current map download process would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot!
