30-10-2013 Software release version 1.7.16

Postby admin » Wed Oct 30, 2013 2:33 pm

A new software update is now available!

With this software updates we are introducing some UI changes to improve the usability of our the Leikr watch along with a new way of injecting assist data to the watch:

UI improvements:

Charging UI: we have now implemented a new way of charging the watch. The watch stays in the state it is in (On or Off) when inserted into the docking station. If you charge your device when it is powered off then it stays powered off until you press a key.

Number of satellites locked: at the bottom of the display we have replaced the Heart Rate logo with the information of the number of satellites locked by the watch. It is a good rule of thumb to wait till there are at least 5 satellites locked before starting a workout.

Bug fix in the workout editor: now it is possible to create several subsequent steps with distinct durations.
Assisted data injection:

We have now identified and corrected a bug on the way we injected assist data to the GPS module.

If the watch is in the range of a Wi-Fi then the clock appears at the bottom of the display: when you see the clock then you know the watch has fetched the latest assist data.
The update will be available shortly, please remember to turn off and on your device after updating the software.

We are looking forward to your feedback!

Thank you
The Leikr Team

My unit froze during the update with the "Running" screen visible. No reaction to any keypress or combination. I'm now waiting for the battery to deplete completely, hoping that it'll reset and I'll be able to charge and boot it up again.

Any suggestions?

Team - many thanks for the latest version, I will give it a try and get back to you with feedback.

One question: you mention that it is possible to create several subsequent steps with distinct durations. Does this work for pace based durations?
I created a workout based on pace and went for a run and I noticed that the seconds portion gets rounded off to 0 - i.e. a min pace 13:15 and a max pace of 7:31 becomes 13:00 and 7:00 (all in mins/mile). Software version was 1.7.15.

Many thanks.

Don't know how (had it lying around waiting to shut off, trying various keypresses), but somehow I managed getting it to respond, so things seem normal again. Phew!!!

First observation: After the first power cycle the watch did show the clock quickly. I power cycled the watch again but now it does not show the clock. I have power cycled it several times and waited a couple of minutes each time to se if the clock was displayed - bit no luck. I can synchronize the watch over wifi without issues.

Speculation: When the watch is turned on it asks the GPS for how old the assisted data is. If it's older than 24 hours (or something like that) it request new data over wifi and displays the clock if successful. If the data is recent (not older than 24 hours) it does nothing...
Is my speculation correct. Maybe other users can test if their watches are behaving the same.

What about adding a text string to the "About" screen showing something like "using Assisted data from YYYYMMDD"?

I observed the same thing here - no clock after power cycle and within WiFi range.

I like you idea of having a way of identifying the "freshness" of the GPS assist data.

First run:

Started when the watch showed 05 satellites in the display. It acquired 4 satellites quickly but it took a while before it locked on to 5.

Leikr: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/264031951/1443163 - 9,80km
Forerunner 305: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/264033041/1443163 - 9,12km

The Leikr did show 06 when out in the open and 04 most of the time when near buildings. A few times it dropped to 03.
However even when the Leikr did show 06 the track on the map is quite poor. The track between 2,5km and 3,5km was out in the open and the watch did show 06 all the time. It should be a complete straight line but it's very jaggy when looking at the map.

I'm not impressed. Hopefully the Leikr team can pull some tricks because in the current state the Leikr watch is more a toy than a training companion.

Also I think it's a bit strange that the introduction price on the Leikr is ending at November the 1st. I don't see why anyone would buy the Leikr for 579$ when the Leikr team have been unable to show that the hardware is capable of making an accurate gps track which I think is the most important feature of a running watch...

I was seeing 6 satellites indoors, 7 or 8 outdoors (and briefly 9). I took my watch for short walk, and got about 4% error when compared to endomondo on an S3. It seems even my phone was having some trouble with the precision of the track (incorrectly indicating different sides of the road), but the noise on the track logged by endomondo is lower frequency. Indoors, my phone is showing 13 satellites, accuracy of 26 ft.

I installed this yesterday and now my watch is completely discharged and I cannot get it to recharge.

I put the watch into the cradle to charge last night. It started discharging instead. Took it out and power cycled it and put it back in and it started charging properly, but kept buzzing as it caught and lost the satellites, so I took it out, turned it off and put it in to charge again overnight. It looked OK - blank screen except for the battery charging icon in one corner. This morning the battery is completely dead. If I put it back in the charger, the screen lights up with the Leikr logo and the little squares in the corners, then fades out after a few seconds.

Admin, I would be grateful for advice on how I can get it working again. Everyone else, I'd be really careful with charging it unattended.

Mine charged fine last night in 'off' state (just the battery charging logo), and seemed OK this morning. This was with a mains charger, not connected to a PC.
