08-11-2013 Software release version 1.7.17

Postby admin » Fri Nov 08, 2013 4:07 pm

A new software update is now available!

As many of you reported, with the last software release, we have experienced a lack of consistency in the accuracy of our GPS tracking. That was due to an error in how the watch handled the assist data in some specific conditions.

This release is going to fix and improve the assist data handling. According to our tests, improve significantly the time for getting a GPS fix and the number of satellites locked.

Please note:
• Remember to turn off and on the watch after the software update.
• The improvements will be fully effective after 2 hours from when the software is updated to the watch.

The new software update will be out shortly.

We are looking forward to your feedback!

Thanks
The Leikr Team

Looking good so far. TTFF this morning was mighty impressive. Didn't even need to take the watch outside! Left it on the window sill, and it got a lock within 30 seconds.

Hopefully the tracking will be improved too? Will be walking and running later, so will let you know.

Well done for now.....

TTFF was around 10 seconds this morning, and I had up to 12 satellites, so the updates worked great!!

Before TTFF was around 10-15 minutes and a max of 7 satellites.

Tracking accuracy is still a little off, since the lines are swaying a little to the left and the right, it adds more distance to the track and therefore assumes I am running faster than I actually am.

But I guess this has to do with post processing of the data, and not the data itsself.

You are definitely on a good way, keep it up!

Great, great work!!

This update came right in time ;-), even in my backyard surrounded be 6 - 8 story buildings i get 7 satellits immideatly - less than 20 seconds after device is started up. Thought it wound work, because i'll never have a change to have wifi and good gps, but you did the preloading correct.

Yesterday evening run with the new software was also very fine, even thought the tracks look a little bit off, the km during running was more than accurate! only 30m off in 6 KM!

Thanks for this update, this gives back trust into your team!

What a great update!

TTFF was app. 10 seconds and gave a lock on 9 satellites. Most of the run the watch had 10 or more satellites connected. I noticed it dropped to 7 when close to buildings.

http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/267180222/1443163 - 11.9km
- still not super smooth tracking but hopefully you can fix this with some improvements in your algorithms.

My Forerunner 305 on my other wrist recorded the run to 11.6km - 300m difference. A big improvement. When out in the open they seem to have recorded the same distance but there where up to 50m difference pr. km when running close to buildings. But unfortunately I can't share the Forerunner 305 track as the heavy rain seems to have finally killed (or at least temporary disabled) my 305 as it will charge but not sync anymore...

Things seem to be better - but I have two issues

1 - with this and the last update I still see the heart icon, not satellite number
2 - my watch still turns on if it is off and I put it into the charger

Wanted to try the new firmware, but it is my recovery day so I went for a walk. TTFF was fast, very fast. Tracking accuracy is not much better. It is unable to determine which side of the street I was on and it looked like I was drunk.

Bug report:

I have turned on and off my Leikr at least 30 times at two different locations (different wifi routers / SSID) and it does not always show the clock at the bottom of the screen (so I assume assists data is not downloaded/injected) but it can always synchronize using wifi so there does not seem to be any connectivity problems.
The test was done indoors (without any gps lock possible) and when the clock is shown it always happens within a couple of seconds of the Leikr being turned on.

Suggestions:

I really think you should do something about how the watch can be turned off. It's very annoying that the watch can be turned off by pressing the two upper buttons at the same time. It has happened to me several times by accident because I wanted to toggle the backlight when running.

And "factory reset" is also to easy to do by accident. Please add a confirmation dialog/step.

I traveled over 200miles west for the OBX Marathon over this weekend.
I left the Leikr on charge (watch off) overnight and it was a struggle to switch on when I pulled it out of the docking station. At one stage I had to hold down all four buttons.

Once the race started all was fine though both watches (had my Garmin 910XT on too) had challenges with parts of the course that was in the woods.
I later noticed that the Leikr was off - subsequent review of the saved data showed that it went off at 21.27miles (2:06:12). The Garmin was at 20.98miles (2:06:32). I am not sure why it went off....it should have definitely have completed the marathon.

Looking forward to your comments about this mishap.
